Hello all,

National 4-H Week is the first week of October. It serves as a week of promotion, recruitment, and advocacy for 4-H throughout the nation and gives us a great opportunity and time to promote Collegiate 4-H.

In the past, there haven’t been very many efforts to compile a list of ideas for Collegiate 4-H clubs to do during this week. However, the Advocacy Team is trying to put together a list of ideas this year in advance of National 4-H Week.

My question is:
What does/has your club done to celebrate National 4-H Week?
What are some other potential ideas for clubs to do during the week?
What would you like to see provided to you to help you participate?

I think a great idea would be to work with a local 4-H club during that week to help them to promote National 4-H week as well as promote Collegiate 4-H week, that way we’re not competing with each other. I think that most small clubs would definitely love the help and possibly the guidance from their collegiate counterparts. Maybe do a community service together!

Some more ideas:

*Add "Happy National 4-H Week" text to your e-mail signature for the week and provide a link to http://www.collegiate4h.org and http://www.4husa.org
*Add a "Happy National 4-H Week" graphic to your club’s website
*Send the National 4-H Week e-card (available next week at 4HUSA.org) to all of your friends.
*Create a social event with a local club or your county 4-H program.
*Do a presentation at your local Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions Club or other service club about the 4-H program and Collegiate 4-H too!
*Write thank you notes to the 4-H advisors, agents, volunteers, and staff who have made a difference in your life.
*Hand out 4-H promotional materials in town to families with children.

Were attempting to host a leadership training that consits of three sections. One for youth, the second for parents, volunteers, and leaders (adults), then combining the two into one with both youth and adult participation. Were throwing around the idea of using it as a fundraiser to help boost are clubs income.
Then just hosting a leadership conference for other collegiate organizations in the surrounding areas. Were targetting any organizations that prmotes leadership. We have passed on the idea to greek, social, and academic organization at our school and the idea has been met with a lot of enthusiasm. Were hoping to set up allowing each organization to teach one workshop so we can learn from everyone, but it will also be a great recruitment tool.
Fundraising we have had great success putting together a 4H appropiate DJ system. Combing peoples music from with in our club and various equipment we DJ various 4H dances in our area. We go for a "4-H Party" opposed to a dance and do karioke, games, and icecream. Are costs are very low and the local 4H clubs enjoy having us.

My club (Indiana University) is going out for icecream together tomorrow to celebrate. We’re all wearing green and white and we invite all 137 4-H alumni that we found on our Facebook group! Hopefully we’ll meet a few new faces and be able to hand out club brochures and show them we’re great people!

Not to mention we chose a day when another service club is being "Celebrity Scoopers" at Coldstone Cremery, so they’ll receive a profit from our indulgence! Hopefully they’ll be able to return the favor when it’s our turn to do a fundraiser!
